Alankaar Sharma is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Wollongong's School of Health and Society. He holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota (2017) and an MA from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (2003). His research focuses on critical studies of men and masculinities, sexual violence prevention, and social justice advocacy. He has authored/co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including the 2024 book Using Social Research for Social Justice.
Sharma’s academic career includes roles at Australian Catholic University and the University of Sydney. He serves on editorial boards of Australian Social Work and Graduate Journal of Social Science, and reviews for journals like British Journal of Social Work. His current research explores rural sexual violence, child sexual abuse survivorship, and anti-oppressive social work practices. He supervises PhD candidates on topics including AI in social work education and refugee mental health.
Sharma is committed to equity initiatives, leading grants on decolonizing education and EDI in research. He is a multilingual scholar (English, Panjabi, Hindi) and actively engages in international collaborations addressing gender inequality and human rights.
