معرفی
Alana Thornton is a PhD researcher in the Geography and Environmental Sciences Department at Northumbria University. Her research focuses on biodiversity conservation and species persistence under climate change, particularly exploring refugia in Northern Britain’s rewilded landscapes. Funded by the NERC ONEPlanet DTP, her work collaborates with Natural England to inform UK conservation practices. She holds an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation (University of Leeds, 2023) and a BSc in Biology (University of Leeds, 2021).
Research interests include climate change impacts on species distribution, ecological transitions in rewilded areas, and stakeholder engagement with land managers. Her MSc project analyzed faunal diversity changes in a new woodland creation site, studying birds, butterflies, and invertebrates.
Alana’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing environmental sustainability. She has received NERC funding for both her PhD and master’s research, demonstrating commitment to advancing ecological conservation. Supervisors include Dr. Andy Suggitt (Northumbria), Dr. Simon Duffield (Natural England), and Dr. Francis Massé.
