Alan Platt is an Associate Professor of Simulation-Based Education (SBE) and Head of Clinical Simulation at Northumbria University's Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health. He leads SBE strategy, curriculum integration, and program evaluation across undergraduate and post-registration healthcare education. With 22 years in SBE, he has national/international influence through roles like ASPiH Executive Committee member (Standards/Accreditation) and Chair of SESAM's Nursing Community of Practice.
Education: Professional Doctorate (EdD) in Simulation-Based Education (2019), MSc in Educational Development (2001), PGDip in Education (2000), BSc Nursing Science (1997).
Research focuses on SBE methodology, instructional design in healthcare education, and interprofessional education. Key contributions include advancing deliberate practice models, developing simulation standards, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
