Alan Norrie is a Professor at the School of Law, University of Warwick. His research focuses on critical analysis of criminal law, socio-legal theory, and dialectical philosophy. He authored Crime, Reason and History (2014) and Justice and the Slaughter Bench (2016). He held a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (2015-2018) and is completing a book on Rethinking Criminal Justice (Cambridge UP, 2025). His work examines guilt, forgiveness, and justice through critical realist frameworks.
Research interests include the ethical and doctrinal challenges in criminal law, moral psychology, and the dialectics of legal systems. His 2010 paper critiques Alan Brudner's tripartite theory of freedom in criminal law, while his 2021 interview explores connections between critical realism and legal philosophy.
