Alan Michael Parker is the Douglas Houchens Professor of English at Davidson College, where he has taught since 1998. His academic roles include fiction writing, film studies, and critical theory instruction, with a focus on 20th- and 21st-century world literatures. He is actively engaged in creative practice, including poetry, cartooning, and interdisciplinary studies.

His research spans contemporary literature, the arts, and creative pedagogy. He has authored/edited 19 books, including novels like Cry Uncle and Christmas in July, and poetry collections such as Days Like Prose and The Age of Discovery. As a cartoonist, he contributes weekly to Identity Theory.
His scholarly and creative work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including Pushcart Prizes, Randall Jarrell Prizes, and grants from the American Academy in Rome, Yaddo, and MacDowell Colony. He recently received a North Carolina Humanities Fellowship for his manuscript One Million Likes: Understanding Cartooning in a Digital Age.
