Alan Gibb

Alan Gibb is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He specializes in Contract Law and Private International Law, with a focus on comparative legal systems between Hong Kong and Mainland China. Prior to his current role, he served as Bar Vocational Course Director at Manchester Metropolitan University and taught as a Visiting Professor at Hong Kong University (SPACE).

• Qualified Barrister in England and Northern Ireland

His research interests include contractual disputes, conflict of laws, and cross-border jurisdictional issues, particularly in the context of Hong Kong and Mainland China. His publications explore topics like limitation periods, forum non conveniens, and suretyship frameworks.

Scientific awards include:

• Outstanding Part-time Teacher Award by HKU SPACE (2001)
• Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2016)

Gibb has held professional appointments such as Examiner in Commercial Law for the PCLL Conversion Board. He contributes to legal education through textbooks, including the 2nd Edition of An Introduction to the Conflict of Laws in Hong Kong (2019), and serves on editorial boards for legal publications.
