Professor Alan Dixon specializes in sustainable development and social-ecological systems at the University of Worcester. His research focuses on community-level wetland management in Sub-Saharan Africa, examining how local knowledge and nature-based solutions support sustainable livelihoods. Key initiatives include developing a climate-resilient Functional Landscape Approach with Self Help Africa in Malawi/Zambia.
He co-authored foundational texts: Africa: Diversity and Development and Wetland Management and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa. His teaching promotes experiential learning through courses on sustainable futures and development in the Global South.
