Alan Deardorff is the John W. Sweetland Professor at the Ford School of Public Policy, University of Michigan, where he also serves as Associate Dean and a faculty member in the Economics/Public Policy department. His research spans theoretical and policy-oriented aspects of international trade and globalization.
- PhD in Economics from Cornell University (1971)
Research Interests: Deardorff specializes in the pure theory of international trade, adapting neoclassical models to analyze trade costs, specialization patterns, and the impacts of trade liberalization on industrialization. His policy work examines trade barriers, the Doha Round, and computable general equilibrium modeling collaborations with scholars like Robert Stern and Drusilla Brown.
