- First to link filaggrin mutations to atopic diseases (Nature Genetics 2006)
- Identified skin microbiome's protective role against eczema (JACI 2017)
- Demonstrated dose-dependent effects of filaggrin CNVs (JID 2012)
His awards include the Paul Gerson Unna Prize (German Dermatological Society), Marion Sulzberger Memorial Award (AAD), and Research Project of the Year in Times Higher Education Awards. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and member of the Royal Irish Academy.
