Alaina T. Baker-Nigh is an Associate Professor of Biology at Saint Louis University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease (AD), with emphases on Apolipoprotein E isoform dynamics, calcium buffering mechanisms, and amyloid isoform production. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
Her work integrates mass spectrometry, animal models (e.g., chicken embryo and rhesus monkey studies), and human subject analyses to investigate AD pathology. Key contributions include elucidating CNS ApoE isoform changes with aging and amyloidosis, and uncovering amyloid-β accumulation patterns in basal forebrain cholinergic neurons.
Publications span high-impact journals like the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Brain. Contact: Macelwane Hall, MWH 105 | alaina.bakernigh@slu.edu | 314-977-9692
