Dr Alain Nkusi is a Lecturer in Enterprise and Innovation at Teesside University Business School (TUIBS), within the Department of Strategy, Leadership & Enterprise. His research focuses on entrepreneurial ecosystems, innovation systems, and the role of universities in post-conflict and transitional economies, particularly in low-middle income countries such as Rwanda.
His research interests include the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, the conceptualisation of the third mission of universities, and the operationalisation of entrepreneurial universities in post-conflict settings. He investigates how higher education institutions can drive innovation and economic regeneration in societies recovering from conflict, with a regional focus on Africa and transitional societies.
The recent publications highlight a strong thematic focus on Rwanda, entrepreneurial universities, and regional innovation systems. His work combines qualitative and conceptual analysis with exploratory case studies, contributing to the understanding of innovation dynamics in under-researched, low-resource contexts. He employs interdisciplinary approaches from business, management, and social simulation to model innovation systems.
