Dr Jakia Rajoana is a Senior Lecturer in Business at Teesside University International Business School (TUIBS), within the Department of Strategy, Leadership & Enterprise. She is affiliated with the Institute for Collective Place Leadership and is currently accepting PhD students. Previously, she served as an Associate Lecturer in Tourism and Events at Sunderland University.
Education:

Her research centers on women entrepreneurship, sustainable and rural tourism, and women empowerment, particularly focusing on marginalized women—including tiger widows, divorced women, refugees, and indigenous women—in developing country contexts. Her work bridges community development with entrepreneurial strategies in tourism.
Her recent publications highlight her focus on community-based tourism entrepreneurship and the role of vulnerable women in ecotourism, particularly in the Sundarbans region of Bangladesh. Her research integrates gender, sustainability, and place leadership, contributing to both academic discourse and grassroots development.
