Alain Labrique is a Professor at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He holds joint appointments in Epidemiology, Community-Public Health (Nursing), Health Sciences Informatics (Medicine), and Bioengineering Innovation and Design (Engineering).
- Education: PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology (2007), MHS in Epidemiology (1999), MS in Molecular Biology (UNC Chapel Hill, 1997)
- Research Focus: Digital Health, mHealth, maternal/infant mortality reduction, and infectious disease epidemiology in Bangladesh fieldwork.
His 2025 publications analyze digital determinants of health, linear growth faltering in low-income regions, and European digital health transformation. He has received major awards including the 2018 Excellence in International Public Health Practice and 2019 JHU Distinguished Alumnus Award. Labrique founded the JHU Global mHealth Initiative and leads a 850+ member team in Bangladesh studying maternal health interventions.

His patented technologies include the Portable Field Dark Adaptometer for vitamin A assessment. Current projects address COVID-19 response, hepatitis E, and non-invasive diagnostics in resource-limited settings.
