Al Burlingame

Al Burlingame is a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He is the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Facility and affiliated with the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI). His research focuses on advancing mass spectrometry methodologies for proteomics, epigenetic studies, and systems biology, particularly in posttranslational modifications and protein complex analysis. He holds a PhD from MIT (1962) and a BS from the University of Rhode Island (1959).

His research expertise includes bioanalytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and structural biology. Key contributions include pioneering work on protein cross-linking strategies, O-GlcNAcylation dynamics, and software tools like Protein Prospector for proteomic data analysis.
