Dr Akhila Yechury is a Lecturer in Modern History at the School of History, University of St Andrews. She previously held positions as a Lecturer in Asian History at the University of Edinburgh and a Research Officer at LSE IDEAS. Her research focuses on French colonialism in India, global history, and post-colonial studies, with a forthcoming monograph on French India (1815–1954). She teaches 19th- and 20th-century South Asian and global history, including migrant histories and decolonization.
- Education: BA/MA (History) from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University; M.Phil (Modern Indian History) from Jawaharlal Nehru University; PhD from the University of Cambridge (2012).
Her work bridges imperial history, international law, and transnational studies, emphasizing French India’s role in global diplomacy. Current projects include comparative analyses of 'marginal' imperial spaces. She supervises graduate students and collaborates with institutes like the Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research and the St Andrews Institute for Transnational & Spatial History.
