Ajar Chekirova is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Lake Forest College, specializing in Comparative Urban Politics, Migration and Citizenship, and the Politics of post-Soviet States. She holds a PhD and MA in Political Science from the University of Illinois-Chicago, an MA in International Studies from Ohio University, and an LLB in Law from Peking University.
Her research focuses on institutional barriers to citizenship rights in post-Soviet cities, migration policies, and electoral systems in Kyrgyzstan. Key publications include analyses of voting technologies' impact on election integrity and registration documents' role in citizenship rights.
Chekirova has presented at major conferences like the Urban Affairs Association and Midwest Political Science Association. She has received grants including the Fulbright Fellowship and Open Society Foundation support.
Teaching includes courses on comparative politics, post-communist world dynamics, and global migration studies.
