Dr. Aimin Chen is a Research Professor and senior environmental epidemiologist at the University of Pennsylvania, affiliated with the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics. His research focuses on chemical exposure impacts on perinatal and pediatric health, including lead, PFAS, flame retardants, and air pollution. He leads international studies on e-waste recycling effects and neurotoxicity from flame retardants in children. He co-directs the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health and curates the NIEHS-funded TLC Study.
Education:
- MD, Nanjing Medical University (1994)
- MS, Nanjing Medical University (1997)
- PhD, Fudan University (2002)
His research integrates chemical mixture exposures, neurobehavioral outcomes, and translational toxicology. Recent work emphasizes PFAS cardiometabolic effects, PBDEs in adolescent executive function, and global metabolomic analyses of endocrine disruptors. His studies influence policy and prevention strategies in environmental health.
Affiliations & Roles:
- Associate Editor, International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health
- Co-Director, Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health (NIEHS-funded)
- Associate Director, Translational Research Support Core (CEET)
His expertise spans emerging chemical exposures and life-course epidemiology, with a focus on vulnerable populations. Ongoing projects include North American birth cohort analyses and clinical trials on lead exposure interventions.
