Aimee Ambrose

Professor Aimee Ambrose is a leading academic in Energy Policy at the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR), Sheffield Hallam University. Her research focuses on the societal impacts of energy and climate policies, particularly domestic carbon reduction measures. She employs non-traditional qualitative methodologies like oral history and participatory research to explore how policies affect lived experiences across diverse groups.

Her international collaborations include partnerships with academics in Sweden, Finland, Romania, Australia, and New Zealand. She co-founded the Fuel Poverty Research Network (FPRN) and co-leads the Fuel Poverty Evidence project, aiming to accelerate policy decision-making. She currently leads four major programs: social/cultural responses to heating change, decarbonizing off-grid homes, high consumption studies, and a book project on historical sustainability.

Professor Ambrose has secured funding from bodies like the Arts and Humanities Research Council, South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre, and the Energy Innovation Centre. Her work emphasizes equity, justice, and inclusive policy design, with over 30 peer-reviewed articles and numerous reports. She actively engages with policymakers and media on energy poverty and transitions to sustainable energy systems.

Her advisory roles include supervising four postgraduate students and serving as a project director for initiatives like the JUSTHEAT social/cultural history of heating. She also contributes to cross-sector affordability reviews and collaborates with the International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Programme on hard-to-reach energy users.
