Professor Aileen Kavanagh is a Professor of Constitutional Governance at the School of Law, Trinity College Dublin. Her work focuses on constitutional law, governance, and legal theory. She holds a prestigious British Academy Midcareer Research Fellowship (2015) and has been recognized for scholarly excellence, including shortlisting for the Peter Birks Prize (2009) and the Annual Gold Medal in Jurisprudence (1992).
Her research explores themes such as collaborative constitutionalism, separation of powers, and comparative constitutional frameworks. Notable publications include The Collaborative Constitution (2022) and articles on relational institutional dynamics. She leads the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, supported by the Erasmus+ Award.
Professor Kavanagh has supervised numerous research students and contributes to Trinity’s legal education and scholarly community. Her academic engagements include the Annual Borrin Lectureship at Victoria University of Wellington.
