Aiko Aida is a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Translation, Interpreting, and East Asian Studies, Autonomous University of Barcelona, under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship. She specializes in Buddhist art and East Asian cultural heritage, focusing on Buddhist paintings and manuscripts. Her current project, part of the ERC-funded 'Aftermath' initiative (Grant No. 758347), examines Korean Buddhist texts taken to Japan during the Imjin War. Previously, she served as a curator at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History while earning her PhD in Art History from Kanazawa University (2013).
Research interests include Buddhist manuscript analysis, medieval East Asian religious texts, and cultural preservation. She has published on topics such as the Akegarasu Collection’s sutras and murals in Kaurinji Temple’s Taishidō. Her work bridges art history and interdisciplinary studies of cultural exchange.
Collaborations include the JSPS-ERC team framework, emphasizing transnational scholarly networks. She contributes to the Aftermath project’s exploration of historical artifacts’ trajectories and their socio-cultural implications.
