Aigi Heero is an Associate Professor of German Language and Didactics at the School of Humanities, Tallinn University, Estonia. Their research focuses on contemporary German-language literature, memory studies, and transcultural narratives, particularly examining how authors from post-communist regions reinterpret historical experiences through literature. They hold a PhD in Philology and Linguistics & Cultural Theory from the University of Freiburg (2001).
Research interests include German linguistics, didactics of German language, and the portrayal of GDR memory in post-authoritarian contexts. Key projects analyze transcultural authorship in works by writers such as Gohar Markosjan-Käsper and Vladimir Vertlib, exploring how their narratives transcend national boundaries to address collective memory. Their work bridges Baltic-German cultural intersections and early modern intellectual history, with publications spanning 20 years of academic output.
Publications from 2025 to 2003 demonstrate a focus on memory studies, transcultural writing, and historical narratives. Recent works explore post-socialist identity in Baltic-German literature, while earlier studies investigate 17th-century Tallinn scholars like Timoteus Polus and Adam Olearius. Their scholarship critically examines cultural mediation, multilingualism, and geopolitical imaginaries across different historical periods.
Academic contributions include interdisciplinary analyses of literary forms, from early modern autobiographies to contemporary post-Soviet narratives. Heero’s research has been featured in edited volumes such as Mehrsprachigkeit und das Politische (2020) and Baltische Erzählwelten (2024), reflecting their commitment to both Baltic-specific and transnational literary discourses.
