Dr Aidan Norrie is a Lecturer in History and Literature at University Campus North Lincolnshire and serves as Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) English and History Studies degree. They are an Honorary Fellow of the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance at the University of Warwick and Managing Editor of The London Journal. Aidan is also Chair of the Series Editors for 'Monarchy, History, and Culture' published by Amsterdam University Press.
Their research is deeply interdisciplinary, focusing on monarchy, gender, religion, and early modern England, with a particular emphasis on Elizabeth I and female kingship across global contexts. They are a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Aidan’s publications reflect a broad engagement with royal authority, biblical typology, and historical adaptations in popular culture. Their work spans scholarly monographs, co-edited collections, and articles in journals such as Renaissance Studies, Shakespeare Bulletin, and Royal Studies Journal. More recently, they have extended their research into children’s literature, analyzing themes of reincarnation in Avatar: The Last Airbender and gender in Disney’s Atlantis films.
Their recent editorial projects include volumes on royal consorts across British dynasties and critical studies on Shakespearean adaptations and medievalism in contemporary media. Their research demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersections of history, literature, and cultural representation.
