Aidan Chan is a doctoral researcher and pianist at the Royal College of Music (RCM), fully funded by a LAHP studentship supported by the AHRC. His practice-based research, supervised by Dr. Maiko Kawabata (RCM) and Dr. Broderick Chow (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), investigates how diasporic identity is constructed through performance, focusing on racialized bodies, commodification, and cultural legibility.
- Performance Experience: Soloist and chamber musician with appearances at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and across the UK, Europe, and Asia. Collaborated with orchestras like the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
- Commissions & Premieres: Premiered works by Alex Ho (Knuckleduster, torn, to the ground, exhausted, sobbing), Delyth Field (Polygon), and Philip Hammond (Reflections and Refractions).
- Awards: Recipient of the 2023 RDS Music Bursary – Ireland’s most prestigious Western classical music award.
- Education: Master of Music with distinction and first-class undergraduate degree from RCM; residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (2024).
Upcoming Projects: World premiere of Alex Ho’s 3 Chinese Myths and Erik Satie’s Vexations (a 40-hour performance at St Pancras Clock Tower, UK, in October 2025).
