Dr. Ai Ye is an Associate Professor at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), tenure-track since 2019. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Huazhong University (2005) and a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Old Dominion University (2011). Prior to SUTD, he conducted postdoctoral research at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2011–2013) and was a visiting scholar at MIT (2014–2015). His research focuses on micro/nanofluidics, BioMEMS, and lab-on-a-chip technologies for biomedical, energy, and environmental applications.
His work spans interdisciplinary fields including engineering, microfabrication, materials science, and biology. Key contributions include novel microfluidic devices for single-cell analysis, acoustic and inertial particle sorting, and lab-on-a-chip applications. He serves on the editorial boards of Elsevier Organs-on-a-chip and ACS Analytical Chemistry.
Research highlights include developing label-free electrical impedance cytometry for antimicrobial susceptibility testing and acoustic-based cell sorting with high viability. His team collaborates with industry to commercialize technologies such as single-cell sorting systems. Recent advancements include optofluidic microlens arrays and machine learning-enhanced single-cell phenotyping.
