Ahmet Muzaffer DEMİR

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muzaffer DEMİR is a Professor of Medicine and Head of the Hematology Division at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine. He serves as Vice Rector of Trakya University since August 2024 and previously held roles such as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2016–2021) and Head of the Hematology Unit. His research focuses on thrombosis, hemostasis, and anticoagulant therapies, with over 220 international publications. He has led national and international organizations, including the European and Mediterranean League Against Thromboembolic Disease (EMLTD) as President (2016–2018). He is actively involved in medical education and policy, including roles in UCEP (National Core Education Program) and HEM-TUYEK (Hematology Qualification Commission).

Education: MD from Istanbul University (1987), subspecialties in Internal Medicine and Hematology from Trakya University (1992, 1997), postdoctoral research at Loyola University Chicago (2001, 2003). Additional degrees include a History BA (2021), Medical Education MSc (2024), and ongoing studies in Cultural Heritage and Tourism.

Research interests span venous thromboembolism, immune thrombocytopenia, and cancer-thrombosis interplay. He has organized major international congresses and contributed to clinical guidelines for cancer-associated thrombosis. Awards include 4,286 citations (h-index 33) and leadership in national and international hematological societies.

He chairs committees on medical education standards (TEPDAD), serves on accreditation boards, and advises the Ministry of Health on hematology residency curricula. His clinical roles include managing the Hematology, Transfusion, and Therapeutic Apheresis units at Trakya University Hospital.
