Ahmed Skounti is a Professor of Anthropology at the National Institute of Archaeology and Heritage Sciences (INSAP) in Rabat, Morocco, and an active member of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS) with affiliations in the Francophone Chapter, Intangible Heritage Network, and Mediterranean Chapter (MED-ACHS).
He holds a Ph.D. from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, France, and served as Morocco's World Heritage Focal Point (2000-2014).
His research critically examines intangible heritage through postcolonial and decolonial lenses, focusing on community ethnography, heritage theorization, landscape studies, memory, and museology. He pioneered contributions to UNESCO's 2003 Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention and global capacity-building frameworks.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Jeonju International Award for the Promotion of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Republic of Korea, 2019)
