Dr. Ahmad Saied is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University, affiliated with the Tulane National Primate Research Center. He holds a DVM from Veterinary Medicine, a PhD in Molecular Pathobiology from Louisiana State University, and an MBA from the University of Kentucky.
His research focuses on Neuropathology, Immunopathogenesis of Keratitis, Oncolytic Viral Therapy, and Gene Therapy, with notable contributions to understanding viral entry mechanisms, bacterial infections, and neurodegenerative processes. Key studies include investigations into Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) pathogenesis, Rhodococcus equi in equine and bovine models, and the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 in non-human primates.
Recent work highlights the immune correlates of hyperglycemia in long-COVID models and the role of astrocytes in primate neurodegeneration. His research integrates molecular, clinical, and veterinary perspectives, with a focus on translational applications.
Dr. Saied’s lab utilizes non-human primate models and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, including SIV neurodegeneration studies and antiretroviral therapy efficacy. His publications span Nature Communications, Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, and PLoS One, demonstrating expertise in virology, immunology, and veterinary pathology.
