Agostino Portera

Agostino Portera is a Full Professor of Intercultural Education at the University of Verona, Italy, where he serves as Director of the Department of Educational Science and head of the Centre for Intercultural Studies (CSI). His academic work spans multiple departments within the Department of Human Sciences, with a focus on intercultural education, immigration, identity, and social integration.

His research interests center on Intercultural Competence, examining educational practices and methodologies across diverse cultural contexts including education, mediation, business, social work, and healthcare. He also focuses on Teacher Education, analyzing professional training for educators, and Intercultural Mediation and Counseling, studying how individuals navigate between different cultural frameworks. His work aligns with broader research sectors including Social Structure, Social Mobility, Social Innovation, and Social Inequalities.

Portera is a member of the board of the International Association For Intercultural Education (IAIE) and serves on the editorial board of the journal Intercultural Education published by Carfax Publishing, London. He is currently editing a book with C. Grant titled Multicultural and Intercultural Education for the Global World to be published by Routledge.

As Department Director, he oversees numerous research centers including the Centre for Intercultural Studies, which conducts research, provides cultural services, and develops education theories for pluralist and multicultural societies. The Centre collaborates with public and private institutions both nationally and internationally.

Portera teaches courses across multiple degree programs including Bachelor's degrees in Educational Sciences, Master's degrees in Advanced Social Work and Pedagogical Sciences, and PhD programs in Human Sciences. His teaching focuses on General and Intercultural Pedagogy, Intercultural Education, and Research Methods.
