Agnès BLANDEAU is an Associate Professor (Maître de Conférences) in the Department of English Studies at Nantes University's Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures. She specializes in Medieval English Literature with particular expertise in Middle English texts including romances, Breton lais, sermons, and blunders. Her institutional affiliations include CRINI research center (UR 1162) where she coordinates publications for the Cahiers du CRINI, and she serves as secretary of the Association des Médiévistes Anglicistes de l'Enseignement Supérieur (A.M.A.E.S.) while managing publications for Études Médiévales Anglaises (ÉMA) since September 2023.
Professor BLANDEAU's research employs a literary and anthropological approach examining medieval texts as snapshots of thought, artistic practice, and social reality. Her work spans diverse topics including Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (in both manuscript and film adaptation forms), hagiography, medieval feasting culture, Jewish representations in medieval literature, and late medieval responses to pestilence. She investigates the multiplicity of sources of inspiration borrowed from different cultures and traditions, emphasizing the dialogue between medieval texts and biblical, patristic, and classical traditions.
Her scholarly output shows consistent publication activity through 2025, with recent work focusing on medieval criminal justice, visual representations of medieval texts, and transmission of medieval literature. Professor BLANDEAU has presented at numerous international conferences including events at the University of Lorraine, Strasbourg University, and the University of Edinburgh where she lectured on Pasolini's adaptations of Chaucer and Boccaccio.
