Agnes Batory is the Pro-Rector for Research and Faculty and a Professor at Central European University (CEU) in the Department of Public Policy. She holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge University and specializes in corruption control, EU governance, and policy implementation. Her research critically examines authoritarian tendencies in Hungary, EU policy frameworks, and participatory governance mechanisms. She co-edited Policy experiments, failures and innovations and contributes to journals like Governance and Journal of Common Market Studies.
Her work explores how populist governments manipulate participatory processes and how EU conditionality impacts anti-corruption policies in post-communist states. She leads CEU teams in projects like Net-Rol (rule of law networks) and Respond (digital-age corruption). She advises on EU-funded initiatives addressing collaborative governance and crisis management.
Recent projects include analyzing Hungary's pandemic governance under Fidesz and evaluating EU cohesion policy transparency. She serves on editorial boards for major political science journals and actively participates in CEU events on topics like EU refugee policies and human rights in drug policy.
