Afifa Adiba, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), serving as Chief Resident of the Adult Psychiatry Program. Her work focuses on pediatric trauma, suicide prevention, and cultural considerations in South Asian communities. She has pioneered trauma-informed care systems in Mississippi and conducted impactful research on cyberbullying’s impact on teen suicide, earning the 2019 Beatrix A. Hamburg Award. Dr. Adiba is affiliated with the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program and emphasizes community mental health advocacy through public talks and partnerships with schools/churches.
Education: Residency at UMMC (2019). Leadership: Graduate of Mississippi State Medical Association Physician Leadership Academy. Awards: Nina Moffitt Award and Doctor of Distinction for clinical excellence and leadership.
Research interests include child welfare systems, cultural psychiatry, and minority physician wellness. She actively promotes inclusive leadership in AACAP through mentorship and workshops on conflict resolution, feedback strategies, and professional resilience.
Her recent publications explore media representation in immigrant families, South Asian maternal roles, and leveraging films like Shang-Chi to analyze acculturative family dynamics. She advocates for post-pandemic mental health preparedness and equitable access to care for marginalized youth.
