Adrienne L. McLean is a Professor in the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas. Her research examines classical Hollywood cinema with emphasis on stardom, gender, and performance aesthetics.
Education: PhD in Film Studies and American Studies from Emory University, MFA in Dance from Southern Methodist University, BA in Art History from Southern Methodist University.
Research Focus: Specializes in Hollywood studio-era musicals, star studies, and the intersection of dance with cinema. Current projects investigate makeup/hairdressing labor and women dancer-choreographers like Eleanor Powell.
Awards: Recipient of the Robert De Niro Fellowship, Victor Worsfold Teaching Award, and Algur H. Meadows Fellowship. Keynote speaker at international conferences including British Film Institute.
Academic Leadership: Contributed to transnational projects like Musical MC² analyzing Hollywood musicals in mediatic contexts. Teaches courses on film theory, stardom, and Hollywood history.
