Adrienne H.K. Roeder is a Professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University, leading the Roeder Lab. Her research focuses on plant cell biology, specifically how growth, cell division, and patterning contribute to organ development. She uses a computational morphodynamics approach combining live imaging, image processing, and computational modeling. Her work on the Arabidopsis sepal has uncovered mechanisms linking cell cycle regulation to cell identity and organ shape. Dr. Roeder has received numerous accolades, including the Charles Albert Shull Award and NSF Career Grant.
Education:
- Doctorate in Biology, University of California, San Diego (2005)
- Bachelor of Science, Stanford University (1999)
Research Interests: Developmental patterning, cell size regulation, computational modeling of plant morphogenesis, and the interplay between cell growth/division and cell fate. Current projects include studying the molecular networks controlling giant cell formation in sepals and applying insights to bioengineering crops.
Awards & Grants:
- NSF Convergence Accelerator grant for Bio-Inspired Design (2023)
- NSF Plant Genome Research Program grant (2022)
- Human Frontiers in Science Program grant (2013)
Labs/Teams: The Roeder Lab at Cornell collaborates with physicists and computational biologists. Key projects include the Polyploidy Integration & Innovation Institute (PI3) and Engineered Living Materials Initiative (ELMI).
