Adrienne D. de Ruiter is an active researcher in Humanism and Philosophy at Universiteit voor Humanistiek. She has led two major research projects: 'Meet my virtual better half: Exploring the meaning of ‘significant others’ on Replika' (2025-2026) focusing on AI companionship, and 'Een(zorg)ethische analyse van de COVID-19 beleidskeuzes' (2020-2022) analyzing pandemic policy ethics. Her work combines critical discourse analysis with empirical studies on vulnerability in crises.
Research interests center on dehumanization in global migration, pandemic ethics, and the lived experiences of marginalized groups during crises. She has published widely on topics including disability care during COVID-19 and the psychological impacts of confinement measures.
Her recent articles (2022-2024) critically examine:
