Adrien Louis is a Lecturer in Political Science at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest (UCO) in Angers, France. He is co-head of the first-year program (L1) and holds a Doctorate/HDR in political philosophy from the University of Paris-Est Créteil (2013). His research focuses on civic friendship, political excellence, the art of governing, and the interplay between progressivism and conservatism. He has organized study days on 'Civic Friendship: History and Current Relevance' and published extensively on political philosophy, including works on Machiavelli, Pascal, Tocqueville, and Leo Strauss.
His academic contributions include the book *Les Meilleurs n'auront pas le pouvoir* (2021), which explores the tension between meritocracy and political authority, and *Leo Strauss, Philosophe Politique* (2019), analyzing Strauss’ political thought. He was awarded the Émile Perreau-Saussine Prize for Political Philosophy in 2021 for his book on meritocracy and governance.
Teaching roles include courses on political representation, communitarianism, and the ethics of governance at UCO, as well as previous positions at the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, Lille 3, and Skema Business School. His work bridges ancient and modern political thought, emphasizing practical governance and the philosophical underpinnings of political systems.
