معرفی
Adrien Belgrano is an Associate Professor of History at the Versailles Academy since 2017 and a Lecturer at the University of Versailles – Saint-Quentin en Yvelines since 2024. He is an attached member of the Center for Historical Research (CRH) and the AHLoMA research team at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His academic career includes a Doctorate in History and Civilizations from EHESS (2023), a Master's degree in Social Sciences with a focus on History from EHESS (2012), and a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Aix-Marseille I (2010).
Belgrano's research focuses on medieval dance history, particularly examining the 'age of the carole' (1170s-1390s) through the lens of communicational constructivism. His work analyzes how dance was represented in medieval narratives across different contexts - in aristocratic literature, clerical exempla, and royal remission letters. He investigates the vocabulary, organization, and social functions of medieval dance, with particular attention to the transition from 'carole' to 'dance' terminology and its cultural significance.
His publications reveal a strong focus on interdisciplinary approaches, combining historical, linguistic, anthropological, and sociological perspectives to understand medieval dance practices. The research shows consistent engagement with questions of how dance functioned as a social practice, its relationship to religious authority, and its representation in various medieval discourses. His work demonstrates particular expertise in Latin and French medieval terminology related to dance.
Among his notable achievements are winning the EHESS Thesis Prize in 2023 and the Bella Ilaria Caccia Prize in 2024 from the University of Verona/AirDanza. He actively participates in significant research projects including MUDANZA (2023-2027) on dancing women and rituals, and HECO (2017-2021) on choreutic heterotopias in Mediterranean visual and literary culture.
Belgrano has established a robust presence in academic discourse through numerous conference presentations, research seminars, and publications across multiple venues. His collaborative work with scholars like Licia Buttà demonstrates his integration into international research networks focused on medieval dance history. He also engages in public outreach through podcasts, documentaries, and media appearances, bringing medieval dance history to broader audiences.
