Adrian Tanner

Adrian Tanner is an Honorary Research Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, affiliated with the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on symbolic/social anthropology, North American Aboriginal peoples, religion, ritual, colonialism, land tenure systems, and subsistence economies. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia (BA 1964, MA 1966) and the University of Toronto (PhD 1976).

Key research themes include Indigenous knowledge systems, Cree cosmology, and the socio-political dynamics of Indigenous peoples in Canada and Oceania. His work often addresses land rights, environmental stewardship, and the impacts of colonialism.
