Frederico Oliveira is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Lakehead University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities. His work bridges anthropological research with natural resources management, focusing on indigenous communities in Brazil and Canada.

His work examines historical environmental relationships, social conflicts over resource extraction (mining, logging, hydroelectric, and ranching enterprises), and cultural preservation.
Frederico leads two SSHRC-funded research programs: (1) a community-driven land use and occupancy project with Lac Seul and Slate Falls First Nations, and (2) a comparative study on culture-based tourism in Canada and Ecuador with researchers from Lakehead and York Universities. These projects integrate ethnography and archaeology through field schools that train native and non-native students.
