National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologiesمعرفی
Dr. Adrian Pîrnău is an Established Researcher (R3) at the National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies (INCDTIM) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He is affiliated with the Department of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies and leads the Complex Molecular and Biomolecular Systems research team. His office is located in Building B, Room B1.06, and he can be reached at (+40)264-584037, extension 181.
Dr. Pîrnău earned his MSc in Biophysics and Medical Physics in 2003 and his PhD in Physics in 2007, both from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
His research focuses on advanced spectroscopic techniques, particularly NMR spectroscopy in liquid state and modern techniques of NMR relaxometry and diffusometry. He specializes in studying intermolecular interactions between bioligands and macromolecules, physico-chemical characterization of pharmaceutical compounds, and isotopic footprint analysis of deuterium. His work bridges theoretical chemistry, physical chemistry, and atomic/molecular physics to address complex problems in pharmaceutical development and material science.
- High resolution NMR spectroscopy, relaxometry and diffusometry
- Intermolecular interaction of bioligands with macromolecules
- Physico-chemical characterization by spectroscopic methods of new pharmaceutical synthesized compounds
- Study of the isotopic footprint of deuterium in natural and synthetized compounds
Dr. Pîrnău has coordinated multiple significant research projects including 'APPLICATION OF 2H NMR FOR AUTHENTIFICATION OF WINES AND NATURAL JUICES' implementing European legislation EEC 2676/90. He currently serves as Key Expert in 'Development of New Polymeric Antibacterial Materials' (2024-2026) and 'Molecular Carbon Nanostructures' (2023-2026), and was Partner team leader for 'SYNERGISTIC ACTIVES SYSTEMS FOR REGENERATIVE COSMETICS' (2022-2024).
His laboratory utilizes advanced NMR equipment along with complementary spectroscopic and calorimetric techniques to investigate molecular structures and interactions. The research has practical applications in pharmaceutical development, food authentication, and material science, with significant contributions to understanding molecular aggregation pathways in cataract formation and developing innovative analytical approaches for product authentication.
