National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologiesمعرفی
Dr. Xenia Filip is a Research Professor at the National Research and Development Institute for Isotopic and Molecular Technologies (INCDTIM) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She leads research in the Complex Molecular and Biomolecular Systems group within the Department of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies.
Her educational background includes:
- BSc in Physics (1992) from Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
- PhD in Physics (2003) from Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Dr. Filip specializes in advanced NMR techniques for structural analysis of complex molecular systems. Her research spans Solid State NMR Spectroscopy, NMR crystallography, and computational methods for characterizing biologically and pharmaceutically active compounds. She has developed expertise in conformational analysis of pharmaceutical compounds and numerical simulations in high-resolution solid-state NMR spectroscopy using specialized software (Spinev, Sympson, Axiom).
Her scientific contributions are evident through leadership in multiple national and international research projects addressing cutting-edge problems in materials science and pharmaceutical development. Current projects focus on bio-inspired surface engineering, polydopamine adhesion mechanisms, and crystal engineering of pharmaceutical compounds.
Her notable achievements include:
- Project coordinator for "Revival of an old drug by crystal engineering" (2017-2018), developing improved ketoconazole-based antifungals
- Key expert in "Bio-inspired interfaces for next generation degradable multi-phase materials" (2022-2024)
- Principal contributor to research on polydopamine adhesion mechanisms using isotopic labeling and solid-state NMR
- Significant involvement in antimicrobial peptide design and hydrogen storage materials projects
Dr. Filip actively participates in academic capacity building through initiatives like the "Open School for Academic Self-Improvement," helping develop research skills for Romanian students and early-career researchers.
Her laboratory work focuses on applying advanced NMR techniques to solve challenging problems in pharmaceutical development and sustainable materials science, with particular emphasis on atomic-level understanding of molecular interactions.
