Dr Adrian George Fisher is a Lecturer in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales. He specializes in remote sensing of the environment using satellite imagery, airborne imagery, airborne lidar and field measurements.
His research primarily focuses on mapping and monitoring vegetation structure in Australia, with additional work on mapping clouds, shadows, and surface water. Dr Fisher is a member of Earth Observation Australia and the Australasian Quaternary Association, and has previously worked for the Joint Remote Sensing Research Program at the University of Queensland and Geoscience Australia.
Dr Fisher's research spans two main areas: Forests (using airborne lidar and field measurements of tree structure to map biophysical properties) and Drylands (using multi-temporal satellite imagery, airborne data, and drone imagery to examine environmental change in Australian drylands). His work often involves collaboration with the Joint Remote Sensing Research Program using freely available data such as Landsat Seasonal Fractional Cover.
Dr Fisher has secured numerous research grants including projects funded by the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub, Australian Research Council, DCCEEW, and others, focusing on environmental monitoring, carbon sequestration, biodiversity monitoring, and arid ecosystem research.
