His educational credentials include:
- Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh
- Master of Theology (awarded with Distinction) from the University of Edinburgh
- Master of Theological Studies from Brite Divinity School, Texas
- B. Ed. (Hons.) from Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom
Dr. Bird's research focuses on Christian History (Ancient and Modern), Christian Ethics, and Interfaith Dialogue, with specialized expertise in Dalit Theology and Southeast Asian religious traditions. His work critically examines the intersection of biblical interpretation, social justice, and global religious encounters, particularly through the lens of M.M. Thomas's theology and contemporary interfaith movements.
His recent publications (2015-2020) demonstrate consistent engagement with practical theological applications, including biblical commentaries for racial justice initiatives, analyses of Genesis narratives, and foundational contributions to understanding interfaith dynamics. This scholarship bridges academic rigor with community impact, particularly through encyclopedic documentation of Southeast Asian religions and theological responses to contemporary societal challenges.
Dr. Bird has mentored individuals through prison ministry programs at Broad River and Kirkland Correctional Facilities, and provides leadership in interfaith organizations as President of Interfaith Partners of South Carolina (2017-2020) and Executive Committee member of MeckMIN (2022-present). His collaborative approach extends to international partnerships including the Church of South India and Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services.
He actively participates in interfaith coalitions including Interfaith Partners of South Carolina and MeckMIN, while maintaining ongoing involvement with prison ministry initiatives and international mission networks developed during his service in Zimbabwe, India, and Texas.
