Dr. Adrian Baranchuk is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University, holding cross-appointments in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME). He leads the Division of Cardiology and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Electrocardiology. His primary affiliations include the School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences.
Education: MD from the University of Buenos Aires (1990), Clinical Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology (McMaster University, 2003), and Research Fellowships in Spain and Canada. Promoted to Full Professor at Queen’s University in 2016 with tenure.
Research focuses on cardiovascular disease mechanisms, sleep apnea and cardiac arrhythmias, and electrophysiology education. Key contributions include linking sleep disorders to cardiovascular outcomes and advancing ECG interpretation techniques.
Recent work includes over 750 peer-reviewed articles (733 in PubMed), 67 book chapters, and editorship of major journals. Awards highlight his contributions to science and education, including prestigious mentorship recognitions.
Mentorship: Trained over 140 students/residents, often featuring trainees as first authors. Leadership roles include President of the International Society of Electrocardiology (2017–2019) and current President of the Interamerican Society of Cardiology (2023–2025).
Organizes ECG workshops at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress and leads educational initiatives in electrophysiology training programs.
