Admire Phiri is a Post-Doc Researcher at CIBIO-InBIO, Universidade do Porto. His research focuses on functionalist linguistics specializing in Southern African languages, particularly Kalahari hunter-gatherer communities. He holds a PhD and has conducted eight years of fieldwork on sociolinguistics, language contact, and hunting gestures. Current research explores linguistic prehistory and impacts of pastoralist migrations in southern Africa. He has published in top journals like Canadian Journal of Linguistics and BMC Microbiology.
Education & Experience: PhD studies followed by post-doctoral positions at Stellenbosch University and University of the Free State. Currently based at Universidade do Porto's Vairão campus.
Research Themes: Combines linguistic analysis with anthropological perspectives to study endangered languages. Explores how language reflects cultural practices and historical interactions among marginalized groups.
Key Collaborations: Works with international teams on interdisciplinary projects linking linguistics to microbiology (e.g., oral microbiome studies in marginalized communities).
