Adelmar Ramirez

Adelmar Ramirez serves as Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Global Languages & Cultures at Hood College. His academic expertise spans Latin American and Chicanx literature, with specialized research interests in transnational mobility, gender-based violence, and digital humanities methodologies.

Ramirez completed his educational journey with a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Los Angeles (2022), following an M.A. in Spanish from UCLA (2018), an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso (2015), and a B.A. in Psychology and Creative Writing from the same institution (2012).

His scholarly work demonstrates a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches, particularly through his current research project "Ajuarear Juárez: Archivo fotográfico, sonoro y textual de la frontera," which examines the intersection of memory, violence, and archival work through visual and sound materials from the U.S.-Mexico border region. Ramirez has coordinated and edited significant scholarly volumes including "Speculative Fiction and Philosophy" and "Perspectivas culturales de Latinoamérica," both published on the Scalar platform in 2025.

As an educator, Ramirez integrates technologies like IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) into classroom instruction, designing courses that range from foundational Spanish language instruction to graduate-level literature seminars and creative writing workshops.
