Laura R. Loustau is an Associate Professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Chapman University's Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her academic journey began with a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz, followed by a BA from Argentina's Escuela Nacional Normal Superior de Lenguas Vivas, then an MA and PhD in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from UC Berkeley.
Research interests include:
- Transnational and border studies in Latin American/U.S. Latinx literature
- Memory theories and violence representation in Américas literatures
- Techno-writing and visual arts integration
- Intergenerational and diasporic narratives
Publications highlight: Contributions to the Library of Congress's Handbook of Latin American Studies (2011-2022), reviews of Alicia Kozameh's works (2021-2022), and analyses of Giannina Braschi's and Carmen Boullosa's literary innovations. She explores linguistic hybridity through repository items like 'Nomadismos Lingüisticos y Culturales en Yo-Yo Boing' (2005) and 'Propósito de un plan universal de servicios bilingües en medicina' (2022).
Teaching Roles: Courses on Spanish language, Latin American literature/culture, and advanced topics like U.S. Latino Cultural Studies and 20th Century Latin American Fiction. She has served as co-editor for Argentine narrative sections in the Handbook of Latin American Studies since 2011.
