Professor Walls' artistic research centers on monumental steel fabricated sculptures that explore escapist fantasy, while maintaining active practices in ceramics, woodworking, and stone carving. His work challenges material boundaries through techniques ranging from industrial fabrication to traditional craft methods, resulting in nationally exhibited pieces that merge conceptual depth with technical mastery. As a member of the College Art Association and Tri-State Sculptors, he contributes to national conversations in contemporary sculpture.
His artistic achievements include numerous awards for ceramics, woodworking, and steel sculptures, with works featured in sculpture parks and exhibitions nationwide. The breadth of his practice informs his dynamic studio pedagogy that emphasizes material experimentation.
Professor Walls maintains a rigorous teaching schedule across all sculpture levels, from foundational Three Dimensional Design to advanced thesis projects. His mentorship philosophy cultivates individual artistic voices through hands-on engagement with diverse materials, supported by university studios equipped for metal, wood, stone, and mixed-media work. His own active professional practice provides students with direct exposure to the creative processes of a working sculptor.
Operating within UNCP's art facilities, Professor Walls' studio environment integrates professional-grade fabrication equipment with traditional craft spaces, enabling students to develop technical proficiency across multiple disciplines while pursuing conceptually driven projects that reflect contemporary sculptural discourse.
