Professor Adam Taylor is a leading academic at Lancaster University's Lancaster Medical School, serving as Director of the Clinical Anatomy Learning Centre and Professor in Anatomy. He holds the title of SFHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy) and has received multiple international awards for education and research excellence. His primary research focuses on Alkaptonuria (AKU), a rare osteoarthritis, alongside anatomy education and public engagement.
Professor Taylor’s work includes developing in vitro models for AKU, discovering murine ochronosis, and leading the world’s largest study on public anatomy knowledge. He has authored numerous science communication pieces across global media and chairs editorial roles at journals like Osteoarthritis and Cartilage and PLoS ONE.
His professional roles include national/international program accreditation and leadership in anatomy education reform. Notable projects include using Raman spectroscopy for ivory identification and archaeological bone analysis, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to science communication and medical research.
He has secured grants such as the Rosetrees Trust funding and maintains active memberships in the Anatomical Society, British Council, and other scientific bodies. Awards highlight his dual impact in education (National Teaching Fellowship) and research (Basmajian Award).
