Professor Adam Pound is a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Professorial Fellow-Research in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton. He leads the ERC/UKRI-funded GWModels programme, overseeing a team of 8 postdoctoral researchers and 3 PhD students focused on black hole physics and gravitational wave modelling. His research specializes in compact binary systems, particularly extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs), and he collaborates with the LISA Consortium to develop high-accuracy waveform models for space-based gravitational wave detectors. Pound earned his PhD in gravitational physics from the University of Guelph under Eric Poisson and holds a Royal Society fellowship.
Research interests include General Relativity, gravitational wave sources, black hole dynamics, relativistic two-body problems, and perturbation theory. He has supervised four current PhD students and leads major projects funded by the Royal Society and the European Union. Notable outputs include advancements in self-force calculations, numerical methods for binary systems, and waveform modelling for future gravitational wave observatories.
- Key Projects: ERC/UKRI GWModels, Royal Society URF projects on EMRI waveforms.
- Grants: Royal Society University Research Fellowship, Horizon Europe funding.
- Labs/Teams: Coordinates LISA Consortium EMRI waveform efforts and oversees a multidisciplinary research group at Southampton.
