Dr. Adam N. Goldfarb is a Professor of Pathology and Chief of the Division of Experimental Pathology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His clinical expertise lies in hematopathology, focusing on morphologic and immunophenotypic classification of bone marrow and lymph node disorders.
- Education: MD from Tufts University School of Medicine (1986); residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at University of Minnesota Hospital (1986-1993); fellowship in hematopathology at University of Minnesota Hospital (1988-1989).
Dr. Goldfarb's research investigates the molecular basis of hematopoiesis and leukemogenesis. His lab analyzes the SCL/tal transcription factor, which governs hematopoietic stem cell development and contributes to T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He also studies signaling pathways in megakaryocyte development, employing techniques such as site-directed mutagenesis, protein interaction assays, and computational modeling to dissect transcriptional complexes.
Recent publications highlight his work on PU.1 regulation in blood lineages (2024), DYRK1A repression in megakaryocytes (2022), and chromatin structure in hematopoietic gene expression (2024). His studies often bridge fundamental molecular mechanisms with translational applications in hematologic malignancies.
